One of the first steps toward neighborhood stabilization is the evaluation of infrastructure needs. Yet no stormwater infrastructure even existed in the Canaan neighborhood, developed on narrow streets lacking curbs and gutters. Flooding of streets, sidewalks, yards, and crawlspaces created often unsafe conditions.
After URP Town Halls, addressing stormwater issues was prioritized by the DDA and presented to the City Council. The City agreed to make application and allocate matching funds to secure $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds, which can only be used to improve an area of low-to-moderate income households.
