McDowell Warehouse

Anchoring a Historic Area

Formerly the McDowell Grocery Co. (distributor of Little Miss Corn Meal), this historic warehouse claims an important hillside in the railroad corridor running through Downtown Madison and the Madison Historic District. It is one of 3 sentinel warehouses intended to anchor the redeveloped W. Washington St. Gateway.

Having purchased this property 20+ years ago, Forest Land Dev., Inc., entered into a development partnership with DDA.  DDA committed funds to improve existing slum and blight conditions and offered planning, design, permitting, and financial assistance. The developer committed the property to the partnership, donated right-of-way, and gained a corner development lot.  (pictures on right)
