Community-Initiated Investments

Within the Downtown Development Area, the Downtown Development Authority of Madison (DDA)diligently plans and implements investments serving as either a model and/or a catalyst. The DDA works independently, seeks partnerships, and invites development agreements with parties interested in downtown development.

The DDA developed a 1 acre surplus piece of city property ($55,000) into a downtown pocket neighborhood ($1.2 m).
Designed using historic district guidelines and the street grid pattern, these single-family homes provide a model for affordable, workforce housing.

The DDA entered into an agreement with Classic Capital Partners for the development of this 1.5-acre surplus piece of city property ($123,100) as a new commercial block ($5.6 m).
Designed to reflect downtown's scale and architecture, this mixed-use model features ground floor businesses with upper residential units and a rear public parking lot.

The DDA reclaimed two city blocks for a downtown event facility, seeking benefits enjoyed by central squares.
The Bicentennial Committee and DDA raised donations and grants ($2.25 m) to create this facility ($4.5 m), a catalyst for surrounding redevelopment (i.e., 914% tax base increase).
