The Downtown Development Authority of Madison
funds preservation and revitilization services through its parallel organization, Downtown Design & Development, Inc. (3-D)
. To date, the Downtown Facade Grant Program has funded a tremendous amount of improvements in Downtown Madison.
The Downtown Facade Grant Program
is competitive; issued on a first-come, first-served basis; and based on matching funds provided by the applicant. Business owners and property owners within the Central Business Special Tax District (aka the Madison Main Street service delivery area) are eligible to apply. For more information:
Historic Preservation Incentive Programs
Properties in the Madison Historic District
(FYI - all of Downtown Madison is in the district) and properties potentially eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places
may be eligible to participate in state and federal historic preservation incentive programs. Property owners who carry out a substantial rehabilitation of a historic property must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rebabilitation for both exterior and interior work on the historic property.
These programs are administered by the Georgia Historic Preservation Division. For more information on these programs and their interaction with the local historic district, please contact your local preservation planner
