Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption

Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption

The City Homestead Exemption Program allows for senior citizens to apply for a partial exemption of city ad valorem taxes, not to exceed $10,000 of the assessed value of the homestead. This exemption applies to City residents who will be 65 years of age or older on or before January 1 of the year for which the exemption is sought. Applications for this exemption are due by April 1. This exemption is automatically renewed each year, so if you have already applied and received this exemption for your current residence – you're good!

To apply for the City Homestead Exemption Program come to City Hall along with an ID.

As County residents, Madison citizens may also qualify for the various types of homestead exemptions offered by Morgan County. To learn which exemptions may apply to you visit Morgan County's Homestead Exemptions page.
