Central of Georgia Depot

Riding the Preservation Train

Formerly located within the railway right-of-way through Downtown Madison, the Central of Georgia Depot, was occupied by Norfolk-Southern’s shortline tenant Cater-Parrott Railnet. Now moved 60’ to a location accessible by the public, long-term plans include full rehabilitation, perhaps as a trailhead and meeting facility abutting a new public boardwalk.

Phase I: Acquisition of adjacent land, Donation of the Historic Depot; Relocation & Stabilization of the Historic Depot, Construction of a Replacement Office, and Paving of N. Bull Street was completed in June 2014.

Phase II: Rehabilitation and reconstruction; grant writing and fundraising; in progress now.
